[Legacy Report] John Bardeen Memorial
INTRODUCTION ABOUT JOHN BARDEEN:
Humanity is indebted to John Bardeen, who is known to the world as the father of the transistor
and BCS theory. John Bardeen was born on 23rd May, 1908 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. He is
a physicist, an electrical engineer and is the only person to have won the Nobel Prize twice in the
field of Physics in the years 1956 and 1972. He is the inventor of the revolutionary transistor,
which is the building block of electronic technology. He, along with his counterparts is also the
inventor of the Theory of Superconductivity. John Bardeen has contributed vastly to humanity
through his theories and inventions. January 30th
we lost the eminent personality.
EVENT DETAILS:
IEEE - VBIT SB took immense pleasure in conducting a guest lecture on “Super Semiconductors
and their Applications” by Dr. N. R. Munirathnam, Director of Centre for Materials for
Electronics Technology [C-MET], Hyderabad in the remembrance of the great scientist John
Bardeen on the date of his demise. The session was greatly informative and educative.
