will speak on "Microwave Processing of Silicate Glass-ceramics"

Abstract - The lithium disilicate (LS2) glass system provides the basis for a large number of useful glass-ceramic products. Microwave processing of materials such as glass-ceramics
offers unique benefits over the used conventional processing techniques. Experimental
evidence of the non-thermal effects of microwave processing (“microwave effect”) on the
crystallization process of LS2 glass will be presented. The molecular orbital model for
microwave absorption of materials will be used to provide a better fundamental
understanding of how microwave energy interacts with LS2 glass and glass-ceramic. This
model was closely consistent with experiments and indicated that microwave-material
interactions were highly dependent on the structure of the material.
Furthermore, recent microwave processing of materials activities will be briefly
presented.
