[Legacy Report] WOMEN’S DAY (STB12161) - MVSR Engineering College
The International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th every year throughout the world. The WIE Affinity group of IEEE SB, MVSREC celebrated Women’s day on March 7th ,2015 .The theme of the day was Cancer Awareness and Health issues of Women.
The celebrations started with a welcome note by Mrs.A.V.Vahini, Student Branch Counselor followed by lighting of lamp by the chief guest Dr.Sowjanya Kurakula , Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, Student Branch Advisor,WIE AG.
Since the UN theme for International Women's Day 2015 is "Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity , Dr.G.Kanaka Durga , Advisor WIE AG,MVSREC, addressed the gathering by her wishes for women’s day and she spoke about how the betterment of Women’s social status can lead to a better society. As a part of this, she reminded about several schemes like Sabla, Priyadarshini, Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) etc that were launched for empowering women in India.
Objectives of the Session:
(a) Introduction to Cancer and its causes
(b) Types of Cancer common in women
(c) Measures to prevent cancer
(d) Treatments available for different types of cancer
During the session, Dr.Sowjanya spoke about Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer in Women .She also mentioned the statistics about the Cancer victims in different parts of the World and the reason for the spread of disease in those areas.
