[Legacy Report] IEEE GRIET SB Visit to R & D Showcase, IIIT-H
R & D Showcase - 2015 is the fourteenth research and project exhibition of IIIT-Hyderabad, showcasing the prominent research and projects being carried out at the institute. The leitmotif of IEEE GRIET SB in organising a visit to the Showcase was to excite technical research interest in the student members.
The registration forms for the visit were put up online, a day before the event, to which the response was overwhelming. The visit to R & D Showcase was made on 24th January, 2015. A total of 34 students have attended this visit, headed by three faculty experts.
The event consisted of a showcase of selected exhibits and demonstration of research projects, which represent some of IIIT-H's most recent developments in research and technology innovation. The event served a spectacle and feast to the eyes of the visitors with multi-hued technical presentations.
The showcase began with the inaugural address by Prof. P.J.Narayan, Director at IIIT Hyderabad, which was followed by introduction of the chief guest and a distinguished lecture by Prof. Raj Reddy, Moza Bint Nasser University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh, USA. After this, a visit to the special Posters-cum-Demos of Various Research Centres/Lab Activities took place.
Past noon, the demonstrations of the ongoing research activities by the students in collaboration with the faculty experts were put up for display. The demonstrations constituted a rare blend of exhibits ranging from Visual Information Technologies, Human Language Technologies, Data Engineering, VLSI and Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, Wireless Communications, Algorithms and Information Security to Robotics, Building Science, Earthquake Engineering, Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics, Education Technologies, Power Systems, IT in Agriculture, e-Governance etc.
During the second half of the day, some of the student members attended a talk on: “Cloud - The Digital Backbone for Internet of Everything” by Shri Janakiram MSV Principal Analyst, Janakiram & Associates Hyderabad in the Himalaya Building of the venue, which provided them with insights of the current trending technologies in the University (CMU), Pittsburgh, USA. After this, a visit to the special Posters-cum-Demos of Various Research Centres/Lab Activities took place.

The visit proved to be quite knowledgeable and providing the students an opportunity to learn firsthand about IIIT-H’s cutting edge research and technology developments and also inspiring them to build their technical expertise.
