Report on HAMFEST

Circuits And Systems Society
Hamfest 2014,held on November 8th, 9th at muffakham jah college of engineering and technology was a two day fun and excitement days for all the Indian and a few International HAMS. Hamfest 2014 was organized by Amateur radio society of India in collaboration with lamakaan amateur radio club Hyderabad. It was a 2 day fest which was having various workshops on satellites, ardiuno. There were fun and technical competitions such as fox hunt, quiz, junk box wars. There was also the India’s largest flea market in this fest and a VULCH club station in the campus.
Here the campus was divided in to four main venues:
1)Main hall – Charminar auditorium hall.
2)Hall A –Golkonda seminar hall.
3)Hall B –Hussain sagar hall.
4)Hall c –paradise meeting hall
Food court timings:
1)Breakfast -8:30am.2)lunch -1:00pm.
3)Dinner -7:30pm

1)WELCOME AND REGISTRATIONS

At the Reception
Here registrations were started and all the delegates were asked to collect their badge and the kit, and were proceed to breakfast in the lawns.
2)INAUGURATION
Nov 8th , 9:30-10:00 am

There was a short and sweet inauguration which was started by the president of LARC Krishna rajan(VU2kNN). Then followed by Ashar farhan vice president of LARC who gave a overview of all the excellent sessions, flea market and exhibitors.
3)FLEA MARKET
Nov 8th , 10:00-10:30 am
Main hall: charminar Auditorium
Here all the delegates were enjoying the exhibition, flea market, meet up with your friends and interaction with all the HAMS. Delegates were meeting their friends and taking the photos of each other and making that time a memorable one. Apart from this they were buying all the good stuff.
4)HAM RADIO IN INDIA

Hall A: Golkonda seminar hall
Here the problems facing by Indian hams were discussed and the solutions for those were also discussed .issues that were discussed were Licensing, spectrum, WPC issues, import of equipment, etc.

5) Amateur satellites

Hall B: Hussain sagar hall
Here the topics that were discussed were what is the minimum equipment needed to work the satellites? How are these satellites made? Lecture by the hams who built and operated the Indian Hamsats. This was a demo session where it was shown how easy it is to setup a satellite station and work these birds.

6) junkbox wars

Here hams participated as a team of upto 5 people. Hams were given a junkbox of simple standard components, where they were asked to build within three hours Exciting new equipment as prizes.

7)US HAM RADIO EXAM

8) HAM RADIO QUIZ
Nov 8th , 2:00-4:00 pm
Main Hall : charminar auditorium
In this event hams were tested with their knowledge of Q-codes, country call signs, and all other questions related to hams in India. it was a learning experience for all the delegates. There were spot registrations valid here.
9)EMERGENCY OPS

Here the experience of all Indian Hams who have done excellent job in handling calamities were discussed. They said about the equipment, bands, antennas, clearances, governmental support they were having and the challengers and issues they faced were discussed.

10) HOMEBREWING-1 ANALOG

Here delegates experienced to meet the famous homebrewers of India. Presentations on RM96, Minima, BITX, SOTAs, JOTA, Bhuji and more were presented. For beginners to advanced builders were taught on how to learn homebrew and align their own low cost sets easily from simple direction conversion to high performance general coverage radios and the kits available in India

11) DIGITAL RADIO MONDIALE

12) FOX HUNT

A new type of fox hunt was organized that tests the technical capabilities of hams was done. Hams by using thier VHF handies started searching for the treasure.

13) HOMEBREWING-1 DIGITAL
Nov 8th , 4:30pm-6:30 pm

As homebrewing has gone digital, from Arduinos to high performance SDRs. Be upto date with Indian SDRs like the VU-berry, ANAN and Indian-SDR (display and demo). Delegates were taught about homebrew with Arduino – a low cost credit card sized computer that can control all your radios and test gear, using SDR from the world beating ANAN set to the simplest of SDR designs.

14) CONTESTING AND DIXING

Delegates were given a chance to listen to the top grade Dxers and Dxpeditioners of the country. The hams who have organized and gone on Dxpeditions and won radio contests and how does they prepare, get permissions, pack and operate, what antennas, equipment is used and what challenges they faced during this was focused.
