Extracting desired signals from complex acoustic scenes requires the identification of the desired sources, and then calls for suppressing interfering sources and noise, and for removing reverberation from the signals of the desired sources. While after more than three decades of research the according methods for spatiotemporal signal processing evolved to remarkable sophistication, major challenges still lie ahead. In this presentation, some recent developments will be discussed and related to established techniques for hearing aids including, e.g.,  the use of ‘blind’ signal processing techniques for spatial filtering, coherence-based dereverberation, and machine learning-based multichannel noise suppression.
