Description:

IEEE Computer Society in collaboration with CSI (Computer Society of India), ECell (Entrepreneurship Cell) and Xtream IT (an IT Company), organised a one-day programming event to test the programming and time management skills of students. The event was conducted on 13th August, 2016 at Ghulam Ahmed Hall, MJCET and was 12 hours long. The theme for this year’s Hackathon was creative development and the students were required to build a website or web application in accordance with the requirements put forth by the clients  or any of their choice. A set of five questions were given to them. The participants also had the option of choosing to build an application of their choice.

 

Registration Drive:

 

The publicity teams of CSI MJCET, E-Cell MJCET and IEEE MJCET did a stellar job of publicizing the event both on campus as well off campus. The event was also publicized on social media. Hence, the response to the event was fantastic with participants from various colleges registering and participating in the event. 35 teams( 4 members each) partook in the event. A total of 140 participants were present.

 

Workshop:

 

Prior to Hackathon, a pre-workshop for XtremeHack was conducted to teach the students about web development. Aarshad Devani, the Ex-Chief Coordinator of CSI MJCET took up the responsibility to conduct workshop mainly on C#. The Pre-Hackathon workshop was held on 6th August, 2016 in CSE Seminar Hall, MJCET from 1:45 pm to 4:45 pm. The event was attended by 50 students.

 

Event Day:

 

The event started with 35 teams at 9:00 am and witnessed around 12 hours of intense coding and continued till 9:00 pm. The teams from various other colleges like Deccan College of Engineering and Technology, Vasavi College of Engineering, ACE Engineering Academy, etc also showed equal enthusiasm to present their ideas. The participants were provided with lunch and sandwiches. The students gave their best to meet the requirements and did an excellent job. Officials from XtremeIT along with some of the most experienced faculty of MJCET were called in to judge the participants.

 

Winners

 

There were two teams in the first place. The first prize was awarded to Service Shed.

 The third prize was awarded to Game Hub.

The winning teams were awarded with walk-in interview for internship at XtremeIT, cash prize and winning certificates.

 

Conclusion

 

The event wouldn’t have been successful without the meticulous efforts of the organizers from MJCET. It was an absolute delight to feel the energy and enthusiasm which filled the air. It was a platform which had something to offer to everyone. This event not only promoted web and app development but also exposed students to the work culture in IT industries and thus, prepared them for their future. The atmosphere of professionalism, infused with the thrill of making and learning new technology was the life of the event.
