The event was held on 14th December 2016. It was organised by Dr.N. Deepika Rani with the support of Sri Lakshmi narayana, IEEE Vizag bay subsection. It was a technical talk by Dr. K. Sudhakar Rao, Technical Fellow, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, California, USA. He shared his valuable experiences with the students about Antenna Systems for communication payloads.

The main motive of the guest lecture is to discuss Antenna sub-system design, mechanical packaging on the spacecraft, and RF performance.  The reason behind the technical talk was to throw light on recent developments in the areas of antenna systems for FSS, BSS, PCS, & MSS satellite communications. System requirements that drive the antenna designs was briefly explained.

Several new satellite services such as local-channel broadcast for direct broadcast satellite service (DBS), high capacity K/Ka-band personal communication satellite (PCS) service, hosted payloads, mobile satellite services using very large deployable reflectors, high power hybrid satellites etc were discussed.

Advanced antenna system designs for contoured beams, multiple beams, and reconfigurable beams were presented. Contoured beam antennas using dual-gridded reflectors, shaped single reflectors, and shaped Gregorian reflectors were discussed. Multiple beam antenna (MBA) concepts and their advantages compared to conventional contoured beams were introduced. Various designs of the MBA for DBS, PCS, and MSS services were also discussed along with practical examples.

Speaker has enlightened the engineers about typical requirements, designs, hardware, software, and test methods for various satellite antennas and also about the future trends in satellite communications including use of higher frequency bands. Finally questionnaire was distributed to students. There is a positive response from 76% of students.

The event had begun at 10:30 hrs with the welcome speech by Student branch Executive member, Bhavyatha Pandrangi later continued by Dr. K. Sudhakar Rao.The event ended at 12:30 hrs and has also witnessed the presence of Mr. Satish, IEEE student branch Counsellor.
