[Legacy Report] WORKSHOP WITH IEEE PHOTONICS SOCIETY
GITAM University in association with IEEE Vizag bay sub section and IEEE Photonics Society, Hyderabad section has jointly hosted workshops on the 13th of December, 2016. GITAM IEEE ECE, CSE, EEE departments jointly hosted a workshop on “FIBRE OPTICS” organized by photonics society, IEEE Hyderabad section. Dr.M.Sree Ramana, scientist-E, DRDO, Hyderabad attended the seminar as the chief guest and Dr.Syed Azimuddin,Vice-chair,IEEE photonics society, Hyderabad section, as the guest of honour. Prof. LakshmiPrasad, Principal GIT, Dr.V.Malleshwara Rao,HOD,ECE department, Dr.G.Karunakar,branch counsellor, Mr.P.Chandrasekhar, SAC Chair, IEEE vizag bay subsection, Mr.K.Chisti, faculty advisor, SPS society, Gitam IEEE student branch were present on the occasion.
Dr.M.Sree Ramana delivered a talk on inertial sensors based on Sagnac effect.He covered the working of Ring laser gyroscopes and cold atom interferometer gyroscope. In the second session, Dr.Syed Azimuddin explained about using digital logic which included ring lasers their properties and their applications in optic devices.
More than 500 people from various colleges including faculty and students turned up for this informative workshop. Everybody who attended involved in the workshop actively and has shown utmost interest. The chief guest and the guest of honour were impressed by the hospitality and the response received.
On the 14th of december,2016, Gitam IEEE Student branch hosted a workshop on “Photonics” organized by IEEE photonics society, Hyderabad section. The chief guest Dr.P.V.Ramana , scientist-E , Exe-com member of IEEE photonics society, Hyderabad chapter has 32 years of R&D experience in high technology with MNCs and govt. research institutes. He has 12 granted patents and more than 60 publications in international journals and conferences. He is highly experienced in product development and manufacture methods. The guest of honour, Dr. Venkat Ravi , scientist- G, Research center imarg, head of optics group in directorate of infrared systems started his career at IRDE, Dehradun in optics design group in 1986 and joined project Nag in DRDL, Hyderabad and later he worked with RCI.
He has developed a number of IR optic systems that are field tested and flight tested.
Dr. V.Malleshwara Rao, HOD of ECE department, J.B.Seventline, Assistant principal ,GIT, Dr.G.Karunakar, branch counselor, Mr.P.Chandrasekhar, SAC chair IEEE vizag bay sub section, Mr.K.Chisti, Faculty advisor IEEE SPS society were present on the occasion.
Dr.P.V.Ramana spoke about optical storage media and in the next session Dr. Venkat Ravi talked about Example of functional product development. More than 200 people from various colleges including faculty and students attended the workshop. The response we obtained from them made it a huge success.
Apart from the workshops, we have also conducted many technical and non technical events to create a festive vibe. Many students from GITAM and various other colleges participated in the events. The response we received was impeccable.
