 Republic Day

India has celebrated its 68th Republic Day on January 26, 2017. It is commemorated every year with great esteem on this day to honour the Constitution of India as it came into force on the same day in the year 1950, completing the country's transition towards becoming an independent republic.

[ABOUT WIE.....]

WIE has celebrated its country’s republic day on January 26, 2017 in VNRVJIET and participated in a parade which is conducted every year, where students of different student chapters display their ideas and views in the form of placards and charts. The performances were a lavish spectacle. The parade began after performing salutations to freedom fighters. WIE’s march was in support of women’s safety and their rights.

WIE primarily focussed on ‘SHE TEAM’, which is introduced by TELANGANA government to provide safety and security for women. As a matter of fact, the future of women’s status doesn’t just rest on the shoulders of a few people — or a few million in this case. All of us have a role to play, so girls can grow up in a safer world, with more rights, freedom and safety. Correspondingly,  we took it as our responsibility to bring awareness among people and let them know how to contact SHE TEAM whenever they encountered any problem.

Women are largely raised to be dependent – on their parents, or on their husbands. There is even a widely held belief that a woman who is ‘too independent’ does not make a good wife. She is less able to ‘adjust’ – code for ‘put up with abuse’. Hence, we made it sure that the girls have to be self confident and Courageous to achieve anything and to fly with colours. Consequently, we let the people know about the problems which are being faced by women and so the ways to overcome them with firm morale.

Next comes about domestic violence which is endemic. Keeping in view that around 70% of women in India are victims to domestic violence, we thought people should know about this and help women.

To fight against inequality .As Women in the Indian society have been considered as inferior as men for many years. Because of such type of inferiority they have to face various issues and problems in their life. They have to go extra miles than men to prove themselves equivalent to men and Women are routinely paid lesser than men even though the work they do is the same. WIE ascertained that there has to be equality between men and women in the form of placards.

Similarly, WIE was keener to prevent sexual harassment, Female genital mutilation, and lack of formal education and child marriages. Harassment does not disappear on its own. In fact, it is more likely that when the problem is not addressed, the harassment will worsen and become more difficult to remedy as time goes on.

Finally, it was about self defence which includes safety measures, how to protect them, few tips and how to use pepper spray when required.
