The Riel Converter Station, near Winnipeg, is at the Southern end of the Bipole III HVDC transmission line that will run from the Keewatinohk Converter Station near the Nelson River Generation Stations in Northern Manitoba. Construction is nearing completion. This was an opportunity to learn about the magnitude, construction challenges, functionality, and system enhancements of the project.
