Outstanding Engineering Leadership…It’s a Conversational Phenomenon! Program Description: Do you struggle sometimes with the “people side” of your engineering role? Do your employees and/or peers often fail to follow through on commitments they make to you and others? Do you find it challenging to have “development” conversations your employees? As engineering leaders, we can’t manage our organizations and we can’t manage people. What we have is the opportunity to manage our conversations. Outstanding leaders know this. They also know that effective conversations are a prerequisite to building great workplace relationships, developing their people, and to getting work done in their organizations. As a result, outstanding engineering leaders are very intentional about the conversations they create and participate in. This workshop will help you develop new levels of awareness, learn new skills, and build greater appreciation and respect for the power of conversations. Key learning topics include: • Conversational process skills • Listening and speaking • Creating and managing relationships • Development and coaching conversations • Requests and promises are how work gets done ______________________________________________________________________________________ Remarkable Projects Happen Through People! Program Description: Group projects offer unique opportunities to leverage the important advantages that collaborative work, and thinking, can offer. But often what could be amazing turns into frustration because of the human elements involved. To help overcome these challenges, what possibilities might open up if we paid more attention to the conversations and relationships that are a part of every project? During this workshop, you’ll first learn a very different and powerful way to look at the primary stages of a project. Then individually, and with others, you’ll dive deeper into the following topics: • Projects are a series of unique conversations • Understanding people (especially each other) is essential • Keys to building powerful work groups • Making meetings matter • Gaining commitments and following through • 100-day projects are an effective structure The training content for both workshops has successfully impacted thousands of technical (and non-technical participants) during the last 20 years. Throughout each 3-½ hour program, you can expect to enjoy an engaging mix of instructor presentation, along with individual, paired and group activities. Accountability Without Blame: In this dynamic workshop participants will learn how to become agents of change in their lives, not victims. High performance means low chronic stress, high productivity, and extreme satisfaction, at work and home. This requires an accountability mindset where everyone takes 100% ownership for the successes and failures in their lives without blame or excuses. This workshop will surprise and challenge participants! Accountability demands clarity. When we are unclear in our formal and informal communications, we create confusion and misunderstanding resulting in poor performance as individuals and within teams. This workshop will help participants: • Examine the attitude of a change agent vs. a victim thinker and how to be a catalyst for positive results o Discuss how to stay Above the Line™ • Demonstrate how to make and keep clear agreements o Explain how to properly form expectations for buy-in and commitment • Explore what is necessary for team members to accept responsibility and take ownership for tasks and assignments • Practice holding self and others accountable without blame or excuses o Discuss how to give and receive effective feedback o Explore how to bring up sensitive issues within a team __________________________________________________________________________________________ The Happiness Advantage: Research in the field of positive psychology in the last 10 years has demonstrated that employees who are happier at work are better at keeping their jobs, show as much as 31% higher levels of productivity, are more resilient and suffer less burnout resulting in lower turnover. This workshop will help participants take advantage of happiness in the workplace by: • Examining how happiness drives success not vice versa • Discussing what causes people to get stuck in a rut of negative thinking • Applying the Ripple Effect to demonstrate how negativity and happiness spread in the workplace • Exploring techniques to train the brain to be more positive • Review how to reduce multi-tasking to improve productivity and reduce stress • Creating an action plan to create a more inspired and motivated work team.
