7th SEC Meeting, Hyderabad
7TH SEC MEETING

1) Confirmation of 6th SEC minutes
Approved.
2) Debriefing on IEEE Sections Congress held in Sydney during 11-13 Aug 2017
Chair has represented the Section as primary member, and Dr Atul Negi, past chair as Section Secondary Member. Vineet Kumar Gunjan, Chair YP also attended with Section's partial support.
3) Any other point with the permission of the Chair
- Inviting Section members who are serving positions in R10 and MGA to the SEC as special invitees.
The SEC agreed that only the India Council representative from the Section would be an automatic inclusion in the SEC.
- SEC unanimously agrees to nominate MGPL Narayana as a candidate R10 Director.
- Chair briefed the SEC on the WiE Conference in Hanamkonda on 18th and 19th August. The event was very well organized and conducted with 13 colleges participating. The event was in a neutral venue. The SEC offers its kudos to Vijayalaxmi and also Sujith – YP from Warangal.
- Atul suggested that we have a session on Vtools and Collaboratec.
- There was a suggestion that Chapters on VTS (Vehicular Technology) and Robotics be started, probably as joint chapters. CAS/EDS is contemplating adding Robotics into their joint chapter fold.
- Gopalakrishna Kuppa and PVS Maruthi Rao are going to Bangalore for IoT standards meeting. A budget for travel and accommodation will be requested by Gopalakrishna on email to treasurer.
4) Chapter/AGs
1: CAS/EDS
No recent events to report. Received $1800 from CAS. Planning to bid for APCCAS and PrimeAsia 2019 with support from Bangalore and Kerala. Atul suggested that we may inform India Council for help. PA Govidacharyulu would be general chair.
CAS is given USD 2000 to go to a place where CAS is not present. Arif and Krishna Kanth planning to do this in Sri Lanka.
CAS Membership development workshop on IoT would be held on 26-28 August at MJCET. Free for CAS members, and 21 teams of 3 each have registered. Travel grant of Rs 1000 being given to a few outstation students. Website has been created.
MJCET has allocated Rs 1 lakh as a budget for IEEE events. All chapters can take part.
2: Guntur
Sub Section student congress is being planned. Lalitha requested for support and inputs – she would discuss with SAC to finalize the dates.
3: Website
No representation.
The SEC is concerned about the lack of updates; also concerned about the lack of attendance to SEC meetings. Ravi Shankar conveyed Dr. Rawat’s point that there has been no content provided by the Chapters.
SEC requests Secretary to initiate discussions on enabling website updates to happen regularly.
4: Photonics
No attendance. But a presentation has been sent.
There is a request for Rs 2,000 reimbursement for an event on 9th June. This is approved. A request for Rs 10,000 for a proposed talk by Hitesh Mehta in December is received.
6: Industry Relations
No attendance.
Chair suggests a Panel Discussion involving interested Chapters with participants from the Industry. This can be an IRC specific event.
7: PES/IAS/PELS
Gopalakrishna attended.
He made a budget of Rs 1,60,000 and forwarded to Treasurer. However, the likely rebate seems to be Rs 1,10,000 but he asked about how to bridge the gap. Chair mentioned that the Section can support some activities, and some activities can also be supported by other Chapters. Chair requested Treasurer to identify the monies available for such support.
8: TEMS
Jose attended.
An event was held in collaboration with IRC on “Understanding AR/VR”. Planned activities – on Big Data Analytics, IP, and Seven Habits.
9: CIS/GRSS
Naresh attended.
Rs 2,500 budget requested for felicitating Dr. Kalyanmoy Deb at IDRBT. SEC suggested that the felicitation only involve a plaque.
Tutorial on Fuzzy Logic on Matlab at MJCET on 30/Aug. Rs 10,000 sought.
Two DLs proposed with Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 budget request.
10: Computer Society
Bala attended.
Event planned today along with IRC on Quantum Information and Computation. Some Webinars planned on Office 365 and Modern Workplace. Multiple technical seminars planned.
12: YP
Research workshop at IIIT is being planned on 26 and 27 August 2017. The online payment mode is to be regularized by signing an MoU with Stugmaz with approval of Treasurer. All funds collected should be transferred to section account.
Chair recorded that this is the second event organised by YP which is not following standard organizational policies of the section.
Approval of Rs. 30,000 is accorded for conduct of this event as it is very close.
14: EduSoc
NBA workshop in September – 25 registrations from outside and 25 from host college Matrushri. Dates - 7,8,9 September.
NBA workshop – a discount in registration fees of Rs. 1000 per participant of Matrushri is agreed upon by SEC for bulk registration of 25 participants.
An amount of Rs. 50,000 is approved as refundable seed money. There may be a deficit of up to 20,000.
15: Skill Development
Ravishankar presented Skill connect. Yash technologies partnership is discussed. IP and branding is by IEEE, NO financial commitments. Skill connect 3 is in development phase. IEEE certification is also in process.
18: Newsletter
Draft copy of Synapse will be ready by 27 september 2017 and will be sent to SEC for approval.
An article on support of management for successful functioning of IEEE SB citing MJCET as example is to be included.
19: ComSoc/SPS
Sanjeev presented.
Workshop series on channel coding is presented. An approval of Rs. 30,000 was accorded for this workshop. Requested Qualcomm for sponsorship of workshop for 1 lakh, invoice to be raised. Honorarium of speakers to be discussed.
20: SAC
Sai Tejeshwar is SSR and has to be invited to SEC meetings from next month.
