IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING SOCIETY STUDENT CHAPTER,VIT CHENNAI INAUGURAL FUNCTION
The most awaited day, the Inauguration of IEEE Signal Processing Society Student Chapter of VIT Chennai Branch finally came to us. Setting up this milestone took immense effort but has left everyone with a cherishing moment to commemorate.
In the Inaugural function Dr. Salivahanan (IEEE, SPS, Madras Chair) has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Dr. Vidya Durai(Director, INAUTIX PVT LIMITED) as the Guest of Honor.
Welcoming the distinguished guests, the dean of academics and the director-student welfare, the Secretary of the SPS student chapter presented the welcome address. Followed by this, student representatives of the IEEE SPS VIT-Chennai were introduced by the faculty co-ordinator. A video presentation was done by the President of the SPS student chapter to enlighten the gathering about SPS student chapter which contained objectives, motto, motivations,etc in gist.
Attending the function as the Guest of Honor, Dr. Vidya Durai was introduced by the Treasurer of the SPS student chapter who then gave a tech talk on various aspects of the Signal Processing Arena. The stress was laid on the technical aspects that can be implemented in the real life.
The Chief Guest was introduced by the Joint Secretary. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Salivahanan shared his experience and listed out the benefits of the SPS. His wise words and directions would guide the SPS members in a fruitful way.
Finally the function came to an end by revealing the banner of the IEEE SPS student chapter. On an optimistic ending, Vote of Thanks was given by the Vice-President of the student chapter who on behalf of the student chapter thanked everyone for gracing this occasion and wished for the IEEE SPS student chapter to prosper further.

Biography:
S. Salivahanan is the Principal of SSN College of Engineering, Chennai, since July 2003. He obtained B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, M.E. degree in Communication Systems from NIT, Trichy and Ph.D. from Madurai Kamaraj University, in the area of Microwave Integrated Circuits. He has three decades of teaching, research and industrial experience both in India and abroad. His experiences include teaching at NIT, Trichy, A.C. College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi, R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, Professor and Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, and Vice-Principal and Dean of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam; Mentor for the M.S. degree under the distance learning programme offered by Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Scientist/Engineer at Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad, Telecommunication Engineer at State Organisation of Electricity, Iraq, and Electronics Engineer at Electric Dar Establishment, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His areas of interest in research are Microwave Integrated Circuits, Low and High Frequency EM Fields and Digital Signal Processing. He is a recognized Research Supervisor of Anna University for Ph.D. and M.S. (by research).
He has authored 37 popular books, which include all time best sellers – Electronic Devices and Circuits, Digital Signal Processing, Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Linear Integrated Circuits published by TMH, New Delhi, Digital Circuits & Design, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Circuit Theory and Network Analysis and Synthesis published by Vikas Publishing House, New Delhi, and Control Systems Engineering published by Pearson Education, New Delhi. His book Digital Signal Processing by TMH and McGraw Hill International has also been translated into Mandarin the Chinese official language, spoken by the world’s largest population. He has to his credit published several papers in National and International journals and conferences, and organized many conferences, workshops, seminars and faculty development programmes.
He is the recipient of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award for Best Engineering College Principal for 2011 from ISTE, and IEEE Outstanding Branch Counsellor and Advisor Award in the Asia-Pacific region for 1996-97. He was the Chairman of IEEE Madras Section for two consecutive years 2008 & 2009. Currently, he is the Chairman of IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, Chennai Chapter.
He is also the recipient of Jewel of India Award from Indian Solidarity Council, New Delhi, Life Time Achievement Gold Medal Award from International Institute of Education and Management, New Delhi in April 2007, and the Best Principal of the Year 2006 Award from Jaya Group of Institutions, Chennai. His name is included in the 25th Edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2008, USA.
He is a Fellow of IETE, Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India), Senior Member of IEEE, Life Member of ISTE, and Society for EMC Engineers, Syndicate Member, Academic Council Member and Member of Board of Studies of Anna University. He was a member of Education Activities Committee of IEEE Region 10 and Working Group on Technical & Professional Education of the Eleventh Five Year Planning Commission (2007 – 2012), Government of Tamil Nadu.
