The PES and IAS Chapters will sponsor a technical seminar on the topic of solid dielectric technologies. The session will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at PSE&G’s Hadley Road Facility, 4000 Hadley Road, South Plainfield, NJ 07080-1192.

Topic:
The seminar will cover Solid Dielectric Technologies for Underground and Overhead Applications for distribution system voltages:

• Types of Solid Dielectric materials
• Features and characteristics of vacuum switches
• Solid Dielectric versus other types of insulating media
• Types of actuators – spring mechanisms and magnetic actuators
• Ratings
• Applicable IEEE standards and their importance
• Automated switching capabilities
• Mounting flexibility (pole mount, pad mount, and sub-surface)

The scope of this seminar is applicable to distribution class underground and overhead switchgear typically used in utility applications.
