IEEE Industry Applications Society Sri Lanka held the Second Annual General Meeting on 6th March 2018 at Sysco LABS from 5.30 PM to 8.00 PM. 


 

 

  • Guest Speech

Prior to the AGM, a guest speech was delivered on 'Current Technologies'.

  • Beginning of the AGM

The Master of Ceremonies of the event, Mr.Chanaka Hettige, announced the commencement of the AGM.

  • National Anthem

The AGM began with playing the national anthem.

  • Welcome Address and Activity Report by the Chairman

The Chairman, Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan, the Secretary Ms.Dilrukshi Gamage, the Treasurer, Ms.Dilini Weerasinghe and the Vice-chair, Mr.Pamitha Kaluaratchi were invited to the head table by the Master of the Ceremonies, Mr.Chanaka Hettige and the session was handed over to the chairman.

Chairman, Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan, formerly welcomed all the participants and presented the activity report for the year 2017/18. In his report, he presented the current statistics of the IAS Sri Lanka chapter in the aspects of student branches and memberships. Then he gave an overview of the activities of the previous year including the Inaugural General Meeting, Guest Speech on ‘Future of Robotics’, INNOVER 2017 - IEEE Distinguished Lecture, Workshops held in Colombo, Kandy and Galle, and StudPro Career Fair 2017.  Further, he highlighted the potential future steps for IEEE Industry Application Society Sri Lanka in the aspects of membership, student branch formation, student participation in IAS international competitions, and distinguish lecture programs. He concluded his speech by thanking Sysco Labs for sponsoring the AGM.

  • Minutes of Inaugural AGM by the Secretary

Secretary, Ms.Dilrukshi Gamage presented the minutes of the Inaugural AGM of the IAS Sri Lanka. No matters were raised for the presented minutes of the Inaugural AGM. Mr.Yasitha Harshanath proposed that the minutes are in order and Mr.Chanaka Hettige seconded it.  

  • Financial report by the Treasurer

Treasurer, Ms.Dilini Weerasinghe presented the financial report for the year 2017/18. There were no objections to the financial report. Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan proposed that the finance report has no errors and Mr.Dilan Munasinghe seconded it.

  • Electing the office bearers

The next item on the agenda was electing the new office bearers. Prior to the AGM, an open call for nominations was made for the positions of the Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer and Vice Chair and following office bearers were appointed as per the received nominations.

  • Secretary: Ms.Dinuka Jayaweera
  • Chairman: Mr.Pamitha Kaluaratchi
  • Treasurer: Mr.Yasitha Harshanath
  • Vice Chair: Mr.Sadeep Batawela

Then Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan announced that three coordinators should be elected which are open to the audience. First he called for nominations for the Industry Coordinator position. Mr.Yasitha Harshanath proposed Mr.Dhammika Marasinghe as the Industry Coordinator and Ms.Vishaka Basnayake seconded it. Secondly, Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshen called for the Publicity Coordinator nominations. Ms.Dilrukshi Gamage proposed Mr.Mohamed Afrar as the Publicity Coordinator and Ms.Dilini Weerasinghe seconded it.  Finally, Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshen called for the Students Activities Coordinator nominations. Mr. Yasitha Harshanath nominated Mr. Kushan Pandipperuma as the Student Activities Coordinator and Mr.Sadeep Batewela seconded it.

Ending the office bearers election, Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan announced that he will be in the executive committee as the Past Chairman.

Then, the Past Chairman, Mr. Nadarajah Dheynoshan invited the new Chairman, Secretary, Ms.Dinuka Jayaweera, Treasurer, Vice Chair to the head table and handed over the proceedings to the newly appointed committee.

  • Incoming Chairman’s address

The newly appointed Chairman, Mr.Pamitha Kaluaratchi continued the proceedings as per the agenda delivering his speech. He stated that he would like to continue the work which is carried on from the last year with more activities. He concluded his speech by inviting everyone to participate in upcoming events by IAS Sri Lanka.  

  • Any other matters

Mr.Nadarajah Dheynoshan suggested continuing the distinguished lecturer series.

  • Vote of Thanks

The newly appointed secretary Ms.Dinuka Jayaweera delivered the vote of thanks. She thanked the past executive committee for the activities done in 2017/18 and concluded by congratulating the newly appointed committee.

  • Fellowship Forum

Mr. Pamitha Kaluaratchi invited participants for the fellowship.

  • Guest Speech

Following the fellowship forum, a guest speech was delivered on 'Expectation of the Industries from the Fresh Graduates'.

The AGM was adjourned at 8.00 PM  by the Chairman.

Biography:

Mr. Thiwanka Wimalsuriya has over 15 years of experience engineering highly scalable client-server and consumer applications in financial services, telecommunications, and the hospitality industry. Prior joining Sysco LABS, he was previously a Software Engineer at OpenWorld and has also worked at several other early-stage startups. He was also a member of a group of volunteers who built a 1.8kW solar power system to provide the Rambuka Maha Vidyalaya with electricity. He has a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa.

Expectation of the Industries from the Fresh Graduates

Biography:

With over 8 years of experience in the IT industry, Mr.Prabath De Silva currently works as an Associate Technical lead at Sysco LABS. Prior to this, he worked with MillenniumIT and NIIT and was engaged in multiple areas such as Software Engineering, lecturing... etc. He has a BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering from the University of Wales, Cardiff, a BSc in Physical Science and an MBA from the University of Colombo.
