WIE and YP Visit: Laboratory Visits of UG Students to IIT Mandi

“Technology is best when it brings people together”. With this spirit in mind IEEE IAS SB Chapter-IIT Mandi in collaboration with IEEE PES-IAS and IEEE PELS-IES Chapter of Delhi unit had organized a technical laboratory visit for the undergraduate students of Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication department of Sri Sai University, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, on 26th March, 2018.
Around thirty five students and three faculty members had visited IIT Mandi Campus in Kamand from Sri Sai University, Palampur and were welcomed at Kamand campus by the respective host. Since the aforementioned college was devoid of IEEE student branch/chapter, therefore the visit was first initiated with the talk on “The benefits for IEEE membership” which lasted for about half hour. The interaction session included interesting topics viz. Introduction of IEEE and its societies and further a brief introduction to IIT Mandi and its ongoing research areas were been familiarized to the students. Volunteers took students to different Electrical laboratories like; Electrical Machines Lab., Electronics & Communication Lab., Digital Electronics Lab., Control Lab., and lastly Special Electrical Machines Lab. They were introduced to the respective labs. Students also got first time exposure to some equipments to which they were unfamiliar and were keen to work on them. Therefore they took active part in performing some experiments in lab which were relevant to their course and thus had some hands on experience too.
