We will embark on a journey from how we perceive light to basic notions of image formation and then discuss means of going beyond the fundamental diffraction limit. We will take a peek into various aspects of the electromagnetic radiation, including spectrum, polarization, coherence
aspects and energy flow. Many of these facets are brought together to form an image. I will present the conventional notions of imaging. We will
also dwell on means of going beyond the diffraction limit, and the fantastic set of ideas that are continuously pushing these boundaries.
