Industry Applications - Life Extension of Bonneville Dam - Replacing Generator Breakers
The officers of the Oregon/SW Washington Chapter invite you to join us Wednesday evening, September 19, 2018, for our Industry Application Society dinner, meeting, presentation and factory tour. We appreciate the support of all who attend our dinners and presentations. We will be meeting this month at the Eaton Cutler-Hammer facility in Wilsonville, 26850 SW Kinsman Road, 97070. This location is easy to access by car from I-5 and parking is FREE.
The cost will be $15 for Slick's Big Time Barbeque with pulled pork, beef brisket, coleslaw, corn bread and all the fixin's. There is no charge to attend the presentation only. Our IAS Chapter always offers free dinners for local PSU, OSU, George Fox, U of P, OIT and WSUV Electrical Engineering Students who attend our meetings. This is an excellent networking opportunity for students as our meetings are attended by many professionals in consulting, industrial engineering and electrical equipment manufacturing.
If you are arriving late or attending the presentation only, the outer doors to the building may be locked. Please call Jim Cook's cell phone number: 503-349-0970 and we'll let you in.

Life Extension of Bonneville Dam – Replacing 80 year old Generator Breakers
This presentation outlines a recent project to replace the original 1930’s vintage oil circuit breakers at the US Army Corp of Engineers’ Bonneville Dam powerhouse. Obsolete 15kV medium-voltage breakers were replaced with modern generator class vacuum breakers rated as 3000A, 75KAIC and tested to IEEE Std. C37.013. The presentation will discuss challenges in developing a certified form-fit-function design, development and KEMA testing of a successful prototype. Following the presentation, the group will be invited on a factory tour of Eaton’s Wilsonville Power Center to observe low and medium voltage switchgear and low-voltage motor control assemblies. Note: for those with hard toe shoes, please bring or wear your own as limited toe-guard pull-overs will be available.
