Introduction

The internet is growing rapidly. It has given rise to new oppurtunities in every field we can think of, be it entertainment, business, sports or education.

There are two sides to a coin. Internet also has its own disadvantages; i.e. Cyber Crime- illegal activity committed on the internet. Data is the most valuable asset, yet often one of most vulnerable asset. So it’s very crucial to use the right cyber secure systems to detect several threatening breaches. In this Cyber World, every Detail about us can be exploited by someone. While using internet we need to remain safe while surfing, downloading, sending, & online transactions. This was the center of discussion in Cyber Talks including several other key points.

IEEE GCET Computer Society Student Chapter has organized the Cyber Talks by Mr. Rakshit Tandon.

Around 460 students from the different colleges had participated in the event.

Flow of the event was as follows:

Inauguration:  10:30 A.M. - 11:00 P.M.

Session 1: 11:00 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.

Break: 12:45 P.M. - 01:45 P.M.

About the Speaker

Mr. Rakshit Tandon has created a revolution in the field of cyber security. He is an ethical hacker by profession. He has gone one step up and besides touching just keyboards and wires all the time he has touched lives of lakhs of people. He is a meritorious student of St. Peter’s college Agra and has completed his Master’s in Computer Science from Delhi. He is an Ethical Hacker, Certified by the EC Council and a Microsoft Certified Professional by Microsoft.

Currently, He is the director at council of Internet Security and Mobile Association of India. He’s the advisor at Cyber Crime Cell of Uttar Pradesh Police and Haryana Police. He owns a training centre for the ethical hackers in Gurgaon.

 

 

 

 

 

Course of the Event

Students got a great opportunity to attend the Cyber Talks by Mr. Rakshit Tandon held at G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology on 3rd August, 2018 organised by IEEE GCET Computer Society Student Chapter.

The cyber talk started at 10:30 am on Friday with Inaugration ceremony, followed by the session by Mr. Rakshit Tandon.

The primary goal of the talk was to highlight how to stay safe from all the types of online threats that happen around us about data security methods. Students got their questions answered by the expert present in the session and they also gained the knowledge of the cyber hygiene and data security.

Discussion of Points

Mr. Rakshit Tandon covered the various topics in the session.

  • Rakshit Tandon had mentioned about the email, social and mobile threats in which he advised to do 2 step-verification methods for email and social media account to secure safety with the strong passwords.
  • Be careful while sharing your personal information such as phone number, address, name and email address online. In addition to this, always pay attention to the privacy policies of the websites and software.
  • As job related frauds are increasing, he told to be aware of email spoofing. He mentioned some of his real-life cases to make people realize the consequences of frauds and theft caused by email spoofing.
  • He suggested not giving permissions to the app which it has nothing to do with. For example turn off the camera permissions for a gaming app.
  • He recommended to delete the app's which we are not using frequently and uninstall the unnecessary software.
  • He warned us about the far corners of the Deep Web (also known as the Dark Web) are intentionally hidden and used to conceal and promote heinous criminal activities.
  • He also propounded about physical device breaches, website hacking and related securities.
  • He also enlightened the students about sections of cyber law which deals with the immunity available to intermediaries. Intermediaries mean any person who on behalf of another person receives, or transmits that record of crime.

At the end of sessions, Dr. Hardik Pathak- branch counselor of IEEE GCET Student Branch had felicitated Mr. Rakshit Tandon for enlightening the students.
