A talk was given by Prof.Vincenzo Piuri from Dept.of Computer Science, Universita’ delgi di Studi Milano, Italy on “Artificial intelligence for Advanced Biometric Technologies” for IEEE Bangalore section students. His talk on how AI could be used for benefit of securing our lives with Biometrics was very apprising. The advancement in technology has enabled to validate a person not just by his/her physical attributes but also the behavioural traits like voice, signature, gait etc. Innovation in identifying different biometrics makes it more convenient, as we can scale the security based on the need.

The Professor also mentioned how we could identify fake biometrics, which is an important thing to consider when we design something ourselves.

The user's input is cross verified against the large pool of patterns in the database and validates him. The CNN learns the pattern each time we use it in different conditions. This makes it more reliable than existing methods. Different parameters like sensing the permeability, temperature etc further add layers of protection. But keeping these biometrics-construction of individuals secured is paramount as we transit.

It was a very knowledgeable session and the fact that the professor patiently answered all the questions and doubts the packed hall had. Our Branch advisor Dr. Deepa Shenoy felicitated him in a traditional way with Mysore Peta and Shalya and presented a statue of Sir Visvesvaraya as a vote of thanks.

It is indeed fascinating how we have transitioned security from what we have, to what we know, to who we are with AI.

Talk ended up with the felicitation of Prof.Vinvinzo Piuri By team IEEE UVCE.
