IEEE PES London Chapter welcomes Allan VanDamme, the Director of Operations at London Hydro, who will be presenting a seminar on London Hydro's use of advanced technology, including:
  1. A description of London Hydro's downtown low voltage mesh grid and the application of relay intelligence to enable infrastructure renewal
  2. Outage Management - Leveraging London Hydro's smart meters, SCADA, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Outage Management System (OMS) to keep the lights on and customers informed.
  3. Distributed Generation - The challenges of ensuring system design limits are maintained with the addition of new energy sources.
  4. Integration of smarter systems - Low voltage VAR compensation, PV generation, Electric Vehicles and Microgrids

Biography:

Allan VanDamme is presently Director of Operations at London Hydro, where his responsibilities include the oversight of the overhead line crews, engineering design, standards department, generation connections, smart grid projects and development of corporate policy.

Allan has actively contributed within the electric distribution utility sector for the past 25 years and is a senior member of IEEE's Power Engineering society.  Along with the design and operation of  London Hydro’s grid, Allan has overseen the installation of smart VAR compensation devices, electric vehicle chargers and photovoltaic energy systems which are owned by London Hydro with a total installed capacity of 460 kW.
