- The eighth ExCom meeting of Pune section began with a welcome note. It was held at the premises of Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune. The place is the venue for the section’s debut conference PUNECON 2018.
Mr. Dina Kholkar Chair, IEEE Pune section 2018 in his opening remarks informed the gathering about the progress in membership development and appreciated positive responses getting received from local engineering colleges. He conducted sessions on Industry 4.0 at multiple locations also. Members were keen in holding similar sessions at various other locations. He also called on action items such as reaching out to more colleges. This can begin with a mailer to be sent to the Principal’s and HoD’s of local engineering colleges.
- Updates from Chapter /AG/ Special Activity Chairs
- Neha Sharma, updated the execom members on the newsletter and newly constituted Pune Section awards. The nomination applications will be opened from 1 September and the application window will be active till 30 September. The awards will be announced in due course (by 15 November 2018 )and awardees will be felicitated during section’s AGM.
- D J Doke, Chair, PES/IAS shared details of an upcoming event on MATLAB workshop to be held at PVG COE Pune for electrical engineers. He also mentioned about a detailed report will be submitted to the section on the energy audit conducted in the past.
- Rajesh Ingle, Chair, Computer society chapter shared details of a workshop conducted on software quality and testing. He also shared details about the planned webinars in the areas of IEEE Standards, IOT and Plagiarism. For the planned DL USD of 1000 was approved. The DL is planned along the lines of PUNECON.
- Surekha Deshmukh, Chair, shared details of sanction of USD 500 for activity under YP under STEP programme. These funds will be utilized for an activity in association with SAC.
- Pradip Mane Chair, SAC, shared details about follow up meetings with SBs for the membership development. An action item in this regard was to send a mail to all the principal’s and HoD’s to create a more awareness of section initiatives and member benefits. Also a desing thinking workshop was conducted to student branch counselors and chairs on 14 August 2018 at MITCOE, Pune.
- Nilesh Deshmukh, Website committee member, shared details of a plug in created to the section’s website a human library (expert’s data base). Members reviewed and suggested to utilize power of IEEE collabratec platform. Also it was suggested to explore opportunities to get associated with ATAL innovations programme.
- Jagadish Chaudhari, updated the gathering about the visit to Pabal Vigyan Ashram on 30 July 2018. The activity received active response from members of SIG on affordable agriculture. Industry relations supported this initiative. The MoU has been shared with the members and is under review.
- Rajesh Ingle and PUNECON 2018 Team members from SIT updated the progress on the plans of PUNECON preparation.
- About 197 plus papers have been received post the submission deadline. The review process, track co chairs, acceptance ratio are discussed and guidelines have been shared. For paper review Easychair access facility will be used.
- 4 pre-conference tutorials have been planned. It was suggested a tutorial will be held based on the minimum number of registrations received.
- Other details like conference delegate registration details, conference proceedings, vendor finalizations, etc., were discussed.
- Post meeting the members were taken on a campus tour of Symbiosis International (Deemed) university. Both at hill base and hill top. The auditorium, Convention Centre, guest house facilities were visited by the members. It was suggested that the conference inauguration can be planned at the auditorium rest other facilities can be planned at SIT. Also the other suggestion be members was to consider possibly allocating on campus/ hostel accommodation to the conference delegates.
- Other Activities
- ICCUBEA 2018, PCCOE, 16-18 August 2018 –conference inauguration was attended by the Chairman, IEEE Pune section.
- SS12, project competition was completed successfully on 3rd August 2018 at PCCOE, Pune. The response from the section teams was overwhelming. Total of 31 teams participated. The winner team from PCCOE will compete in the finals at Asia Level.
- The meeting closed with a note of vote of thanks and special note of thanks and appreciation to members of SIT for arranging the meeting at SIT location.
