Onsite energy storage is becoming more common.  The codes governing the various types of battery energy storage can be challenging.  The speaker will review  CFC paragraph 6.08,  covering Stationary Storage Battery Systems. We will review the following points:

  • The code added a number of new battery types; including Lithium, Sodium, Flow batteries, etc.  We will review how Lithium Ion batteries are affected by this code.  The Li-Ion batteries have been very popular over the last  years.  The speaker will explain why the batteries are so popular, and why these batteries are totally different and much safer.  Additionally, we will review application issues presented in  recent news reports.
  • Different fault conditions with the new battery systems.
  • Location considerations, and ventilation fort he new battery systems
  • Allowable storage capacity.
  • Rules for outdoor installations .....
  • Table 608.3 changes the maximum battery quantities from “gallons of electrolyte” to Watt Hours.  We will review how to translate  the changes..

Additionally, We will discuss Fire suppression, smoke detection and ventilation of these new battery systems.

ATour of the IEM's Power Distribution Equipment factory follows the presentation - Get a close up view of LV and MV distribution equipment on the factory floor.
