Tech-know-logic is a technical initiative by WIE IEEE-SJCE conducted at JSS –POLYTECHNIC for the DIFFERENTLY ABLED.It is a two day workshop which adopts a humanitarian approach in making technology more accessible to the differently abled.

Objective:

  • The major area of focus is making the technology easier to comprehend for the deaf, mute or physically disabled students, who may be hindered because of their disabilities.
  • The aim of this initiative is to encourage practical and design-oriented approach.
  • The workshop is designed so that it helps beginners take their first step towards robotics, embedded systems and microcontroller technology.
  • The workshop also focuses on introducing the new integrated development board titled Arduino Uno.
  • Encourage fellow students to volunteer in humanitarian activities and impart knowledge.
  • The workshop encourages the spirit of Volunteering .The workshop is conducted after the iconic workshop ROBOTIX. The participants of ROBOTIX are allowed to volunteer for Tech-know-logic. Thus volunteers thus have detailed knowledge about MSP430.

Impact of the practice:

  • The workshop was handled by the members of IEEE-SJCE, thereby helping the volunteers improvise their communication skills. Since this workshop was conducted for the deaf and mute the volunteers came out with innovative ideas to deliver the concepts clearly thus making it a very different experience for the volunteers.
  • This workshop also gave IEEE-SJCE an opportunity to understand the perception about electronics amongst students studying in different streams.
  • It also gave IEEE-SJCE an opportunity to contribute to the society by imparting knowledge.
  • The workshop has been conducted for two consecutive years has received positive feedback the increase in number of participants makes this fact evident. The workshop has seen a significant 60% increase in the number of participants.

Innovativeness:

  • Normally most workshops are conducted for students with no disabilities. But Tech-know-logic caters to improvise the technical know –how and practical knowledge of differently abled students.
  • The workshop is pretty challenging and brings about the best in volunteers who work hard to convey information effectively.
  • Adding to this the participants of the workshop are diploma students, thereby allowing IEEE-SJCE to reach out to students beyond just engineering.
  • The volunteers also encouraged the diploma students to continue their education by pursuing engineering.
  • The workshop makes technology easy to understand and use for students with special needs.
