The IEEE Switzerland Power and Energy Society will run a one-day conference on the decarbonisation of energy systems in the urban environment.

Switzerland will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. With Switzerland’s settlement in urban areas reported at 73.99 % in 2016, decarbonisation of energy systems in cities and urban areas is critical to achieving our greenhouse gas reduction targets.

The IEEE Switzerland Power and Energy Society will run a one-day conference on the decarbonisation of energy systems in the urban environment.

During the event, we will highlight emerging trends and innovative technology that can support the implementation of the Energy Strategy 2050 and help urban centres to become sustainable Energy Cities.

The event will also include a guided tour of the iHomeLab at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and group presentations of research programmes focused on zero-carbon living in the urban environment.

Topics include:

- Innovation in energy systems and urban planning that can drive decarbonisation
- New approaches to modelling, simulation, and optimisation of urban energy systems that support decision making in creating future low carbon cities
- Innovation in the analysis and management of consumer loads, including the use of smart meter data to mobilise large consumers as displaceable loads
- Intelligent uses of building integrated renewable energy generation and consumption, in particular photovoltaic generation combined with heat and electromobility
- Case studies from Swiss research and pilot projects that demonstrate evaluation, planning and implementation of PV, battery management, heat loads and electric vehicles for domestic consumers
