Lumino - The National Level Hackathon, was conducted for the first time by S.B.
Jain Institute of Technology, Nagpur at their campus under IEEE PES Student Chapter. It
was organized as a 3-day event from 17th to 19

th of March, 2019. Some special

attractions were organized on 17th

, while the main competition began on 18th, which

was a 24 hour event, based on Arduino. The end of
the competition along with prize distribution and
winding up of this memorable occasion Lumino took
place on the third day, i.e. 19th of March.
The first day (17th March) began with the
Inauguration Ceremony of Lumino under the
presence of Chief Guest Dr. D. P. Kothari, an honor
‘able IEEE fellow and prestigious dignitary, Dr. S. L.
Badjate, the Principal of the college, Dr. Pankaj
Thote, the Dean of Electronics Department, Mr.
Animesh Tayal, the IEEE Branch Counselor, all the
participating delegates and volunteers of the event.
It followed by a highly enlightening and motivating
interaction of the delegates and honorable Chief
Guest Dr. D. P. Kothari, which not only kept a mirror
in front of today’s youth, but also inspired them to
excel in their fields with full of energy and
enthusiasm. The following major event happened to be a noteworthy enthusiastic
lecture by leading entrepreneur Mr. Nakul Agarwal, who explained the concept of
Entrepreneurship in very simple words to the respective audience. Lastly, a highly
energetic Cultural Night which comprised of various performances and DJ for all
delegates as well as volunteers, rejuvenated everyone for the upcoming events and
thus, marked the end of the day.

On 18th March, the actual
Hackathon was scheduled lasting
for 24 hours. For an authentic
and just outcome, all mobiles and
other communication devices
were confiscated by volunteers
until the event completion. The
instructions and various
information regarding the
competition was conveyed and
competition began on 11 am. 15
teams from various locations across India like Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Kerala, etc.
participated to work on a common problem statement: Designing and Development of
a Smart Illumination System based on Arduino Uno, in this hardware based Hackathon.
Completion of 6 well quoted stages plus a bonus 7th stage, while covering several
factors such as Functionality, Creativity, Innovation, Coordination, etc. was the main
goal and prime deciding factor. All teams worked very well in coordination for 24 hours
to give their best!
The Hackathon came to end sharp at 11 am, on 19th March, followed by the
inspection of judges and presentation of their projects by respective teams. The Prize
Distribution then began under the presence of dignitaries and all teams. Pride for the
management, almost every team was successfully able to reach till the Sixth stage.
However, everyone was quite excited and curious about the champions for the day.
And then, the wonderful result of the winning team was disclosed, which was Team
AVR Hackers from Universal College of Engineering, Vasai (Mumbai) securing the 1st
prize in Lumino – The National Level Hackathon. The team comprised of 4 students, viz.
Akshay Laddha, Sahil Nikam, Jatin
Gohil (SE Electronics students) and
Meghdatta Korgaonkar (SE Computer
Science student), who also received a
cash prize of 15 thousand rupees.
Teams from Kerala and Nagpur bagged
the 2nd and 3rd prize, and cash prizes of
8,000 and 5,000 rupees respectively.
Thus, Mumbai team proved to be the

best and hence was the prime attraction, which was congratulated and appreciated by
everyone. Applause from audience truly reflected the glory, dedication and efforts of
all the winning teams. All the other teams were given their participation certificates,
which was followed by the Vote of Thanks by the lead anchor. As a result, this historic
grand event came to an end.
