TANESKA WESTMORELAND GENERATING STATION PLANT TOUR
Tenaska Westmoreland is a new 980 MW combined-cycle gas fired electric power generating station. This state of the art modern generating station was completed in late 2018 and is now in operation. The plant site is near the community of Smithton in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The plant is owned and operated by Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners, which includes the affiliates of Tenaska and Mitsubishi Corporation’s subsidiary, Diamond Generating Corporation. The ownership is unique in that such a large generating station is neither owned nor operated by an electric utility. The plant generates clean energy using locally produced natural gas. The generated power offsets the impact of lost power generation from a number of coal-fueled plants in the region, which have been either closed or are about to close. A nearby newly constructed 500kv Switchyard ties generated power to the regional transmission grid.
