Topic:

Sustainable Software Development

As the pace of innovation increases, software development teams are pressured to produce short-term results, often at the expense of long-term product and team sustainability.  The results of this type of pressure can include stagnating products, lowered team velocity, and burnout.

Sustainability goes beyond environment impacts - at its core it's about acting in a way that prioritizes the long-term.  SmartHalo uses this philosophy in surprising ways to continually release software in relentless pursuit of their mission.  Their process eschews software estimates and project managers, instead focusing on building a highly adaptable team with the ability to build long-term value.

From Science to Products in a Startup Environment

This presentation aims to exhibit an example of how Science is impacting Consumer Products nowadays. Scientist Entrepreneurs are implementing very aggressive R&D cycles by adopting Agile methodologies. The results are very interesting as it will be demonstrated in this presentation.

Biography:

I received my Engineering Degree in Telecommunications and Electronics from the CUJAE Polytechnic University (ISPJAE), Havana, Cuba, where I spent two years as a full-time lecturer. I also obtained both MSc. and PhD degrees in Electronics, Signal Processing, and Communications from the University of Seville, Spain, in 2010 and 2012, respectively. I was awarded an Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the University of Seville in 2012.

My passion is transforming deep R&D into products for the communication and consumer electronics industries.

I have published more than 20 scientific articles and presented more than ten patent families. I am also an active reviewer for different IEEE Journals and Magazines.
