Pathways from Startup entrepreneur to Startup Investor

Unlike Athena, Startups do not emerge fully formed from the head of their founders. The Startup Entrepreneur is on a long journey of personal discovery. And as a result, will gain insights into the process of company formation that are hard to gain any other way.  In the Tech community, we have many people who meet the federal requirements for being accredited and thereby having the ability to invest in startups. When Facebook has a median salary of $240K, then more than half of Facebook employees are "Federally accredited". And as a result, they are legally allowed to invest in things that the unaccredited are not.  This is at the root of the $25B invested into early stage startups each year.  We will look at the skills, perspectives, experiences and resources it takes to be an effective investor in startups.

John Sechrest is the founder of Seattle Angel Conference and the Willamette Angel Conference. He runs the Seattle Startups Open Coffee. His efforts are focused on creating more momentum in the Northwest Startup ecosystem. In the last 4 months, there have been Angel Conferences in San Diego, Oregon, Kelowna, Alaska and just last month in Seattle.   This is a process that is having a distinct impact on west coast startups. John is also a startup mentor at Fledge.co , WeWork Labs, Galvanize and CoMotion.

Biography:

Founder of the Seattle Angel Conference. Co-Organizer of the Lean Startup Seattle. Global Facilitator for Startup Weekend.

As an entrepreneurial collaborator, I focus on entrepreneurial and innovation efforts as a way to develop new projects and companies. My efforts are focused building the tools , skills and processes that enable people to make a positive impact on the world. All of the changes we are seeing in the world will find lasting and sustainable solutions by entrepreneurs and innovators creating new pathways to solving complex issues. By connecting resources, people and projects together and building feedback mechanisms into the conversation, I make significant impacts on the groups that I work with. I continue my efforts to impact the startup climate in the Northwest.
