Professor Tali Freed Ph.D. of California Poly SLO

This presentation will introduce PolyGAIT – the Cal Poly Center for Global Automatic Identification Technologies, its past R&D achievements and current fronts. Recent applied research on combined systems of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and radio frequency identification (RFID) will be described. Commercial applicability and extensions of this research will be discussed.

Biography:

Dr. Tali Freed received her Ph.D. from the U.C. Berkeley Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Her B.Sc. and M.Sc. are in Industrial Engineering and Management, from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.  Prior to starting her studies at the Technion Dr. Freed completed her mandatory military service in the Israeli Air Force, as the first woman technician in the force. Dr. Freed is a faculty member of the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She currently serves as the Graduate Programs and Senior Projects Coordinator for the department. Dr. Freed’s primary areas of teaching, research, development, and consulting are RFID (radio frequency identification), process improvement, planning and 

scheduling, and design of information systems. She is certified as a Professional Engineer in the state of California, and the Director of PolyGAIT – The Multidisciplinary Cal Poly Center for Global Automatic Identification Technologies.  http://www.polygait.calpoly.edu/

Dr. Freed has been a faculty member at Cal Poly since 2001. She has also been adjunct faculty at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and several other universities in the US and Israel. Dr. Freed invented and patented an efficient RFID-enabled process for food traceability. She specializes in custom-design of RFID systems for cost reduction and increased productivity. In the last two decades Dr. Freed has been consulting with many commercial, governmental, and non-profit organizations. Executives and engineers from various organizations frequently visit PolyGAIT to learn about RFID and its uses for process improvement. She has advised hundreds of these projects and published numerous academic and industrial articles and reports. She is frequently invited to speak at professional conferences and conventions.
