Power system reliability starts with ensuring the assemblies employed to manage electrical network connections perform predictably in good times and in bad.

Australia has recently updated the product standards which set out the requirements for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies (switchboards). The AS/NZS 3439 series will be superseded by the AS/NZS 61439 series that has been adopted from the IEC 61439 standards and modified for Australian conditions.

These changes will mean that some switchboard designs will no longer be compliant with the current Australian Standard.

This presentation will highlight changes introduced by the new standard and review the verification process that ensures the switchboard design achieves the specified ratings. It will also highlight how electrical ratings are presented in test documentation and the differences between reports and certificates.

How will your switchboard perform with an arcing fault, during a short-circuit, or when running at full load? You might be surprised when you find out!
