‘IIITA-IAPT Anveshika’ on Experimental Physics Preuniversity Workshop
Department of Applied Science, IIIT-Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh organized two days’ workshop on learning physics by designing demo experiments for pre-university students on 26-27 April, 2019 in collaboration with Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) (Regional Council-4, UP Section) and IEEE UP Section. The students of class 12th from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Jhalwa, Prayagraj have been invited in the IIITA-IAPT Anveshika, after inaugural the technical session have been started. Students were divided in groups 4 each, on a separate table, an open ended demonstration experiment have been given for observation. Students were asked to perform experiment, play/modify or change the design as per their known physics concept without fear of breaking or damaging, if it happens we shall take care. And one-hour time has been given. After one hour, our faculty members started interacting with them for detailed discussion. Now, enthusiasm among the participants was noteworthy, their involvement in experimentation and discussion shows their keenness. Some groups reached to the point we have planned, but some groups did beyond that. And, then a detailed prepared manual has been supplied to them for the understanding of mathematical formulations/observations. The groups were rotated on tables after the tea break.
The duration of this workshop was two consecutive days, five hours’ session each day with a half hour tea break in a total of ten hours. At the end of this workshop, a positive response has been seen in each student. More than 4 faculty and 8 Ph D students are involved with these 40 students of class 12th.
Dr. Akhilesh Tiwari (Associate Professor & Head) and Dr. Pramod Kumar (Associate Professor), Department of Applied Science, IIIT Allahabad was the convener of the workshop. Organizers are thankful to Dr. S K Singh, Secretary, IEEE
UP Section for involvement in the workshop. The workshop was successful to enhance the student’s skill level.
