KAGADA 2019
The Sixteenth National Level Annual Technical Student Conference - KAGADA 2019 - was held at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering on the 21st of October, 2019.
This year's KAGADA was inaugurated by our Chief Guest Padmashri Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao, Former Director of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Dr. Rao is one of the prominent Scientists associated with our Former President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in designing and producing the first indigenous AKASH Missile system. He is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from University Visvesvarya College of Engineering (UVCE). He is a fellow member of several Indian Institutions, professional bodies and has configured and established many world-class high-tech facilities and infrastructure, working at various development centres over 20 years in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rao emphasised on the importance of gaining practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge, effective time management and hard work that is essential to reach one’s goals. He also shed light on how students need to prepare for the future - step by step. Joining them were our very enthusiastic and encouraging Dr. P. Deepa Shenoy - Branch Advisor IEEE UVCE, Dr. Venugopal K. R. - Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University, Dr. Kiran K. - Branch Counselor IEEE UVCE, Dr. Pushpa C. N. - WIE Mentor IEEE UVCE, Dr. Lata B. T. and Dr. Venkatesh M. - Branch Mentors IEEE UVCE, Dr. B. M. Rajaprakash - Placement Officer UVCE, Chairpersons and Teachers from all associated departments.
The conference comprised of Paper Presentations, Project Exhibitions and Poster Presentations with more than 200 participants from various engineering colleges across the state. Around 56 entries were received for the poster track, 26 for the project track and 25 for the paper track. Out of the 25 Paper Submissions, 14 Papers were shortlisted. These papers were categorized into two tracks namely the UG/PG and WIE tracks, consisting of 7 papers each. All Project and Poster Submissions were selected and presented on the day. Cash Prizes worth a total of Rs. 40,000 were given, for the top 3 presentations, in each track.
IEEE WIE UVCE conducted "Ottige Kaliyona" wherein they invited 32 students from "Government Primary and Secondary School, Sampangiramnagar" to our college - UVCE - on the same day as KAGADA at 9:30 am. These students belonged to the 8th, 9th and 10th grades. Various activities were planned for these students including clay modelling and PowerPoint Presentations. Later on, they were asked to create their PPT and goodies were distributed.
"Food for Cause" was an initiative wherein the volunteers from ECE 1st year prepared and sold delicious dishes to participants. The profit is to to be donated to an NGO working in children empowerment domain. The dishes varied from homemade cupcakes, chaat and Maggi at very affordable rates. This initiative proved to be a big success with many people taking part.
Kagada '19 ended with a valedictory ceremony where the winners of the different tracks were announced and the prizes given away. All the participants were given participation certificates. The valedictory ceremony was presided by Mr. Muralidhar Somisetty - Founder of Wellnesys Technologies - whose words were an inspiration to all.
Thus, Kagada'19 was a huge success with a great number of participants taking part in it with utmost enthusiasm.
