Ahmedabad being hub of space and planetary science research in the country since establishment of national institutes like Indian, space research organization, Physical research laboratory. In addition, Geosciences and remote sensing education and research has become integral part of educational system in premier institutes like Nirma University, CEPT University , MS University, Baroda, Gujarat university etc. In view of such high level of research and educational institutes, professional bodies like IEEE Geosciences and remote sensing Society has established Gujarat chapter in May 2013 to fill the bridge between professionals, researchers, students with international community and corporate sector. In order to foster activity in this direction, IEEE GRSS is organizing a number of activities during current year. One of the activity is to discuss the recent advances in radar remote sensing mainly on SAR from international and national experts working in this area of research. The proposed two day meet is aiming towards SAR technology and applications for regional and global requirement.
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is one of the major technique for earth and planetary observations with increasing importance globally. A large number of SAR sensors are being used operationally for acquiring data over different frequency, polarization and incidence angle. To extend the capability further, a number of new SAR missions are in planning or development phase or near maturity for launch. Some of them include Sentinel SAR, ALOS-2 PALSAR, Chandrayaan-2 dual frequency SAR, ISRO-NASA joint dual frequency SAR etc. In addition, a large number of new emerging techniques like polarimetry, interferometry, Pol-InSAR or bistatic observations are making an impact on improved information retrieval. A need exists to consolidate the existing activity and to give a thrust of future direction. Thus, a need of international meeting. on Microwave Remote sensing and its applications is planned focusing on the latest update of technology by international experts and Indian experts. In order to consolidate the present status and assess the future technology, a two day international meet is planned at Ahmedabad during 16 -17 December 2013.
In the meet, SAR Experts from India and abroad would deliver talks on SAR experience and future directions. Some of the topic includes SAR technology, signal processing, recent advances, Earth and planetary science applications. The meeting would also be inviting for contributions from various researchers, academicians, corporate sector, managers, students etc. for bringing out the case study using microwave remote sensing technology and future need.
Contributions as two-page extended abstracts are invited in the following fields (but not restricted to):
Space borne, Airborne SAR Systems and Missions
SAR product
SAR Image quality
RCS measurements
SAR signal processing/Image filtering/Image processing/ Feature extraction
SAR Applications: Land, water and Ocean
SAR interferometry/polarimetry/Pol-InSAR/ Bistatic radar techniques and applications
SAR applications: Planetary science
Data fusion techniques
Operational/Commercial SAR applications
Recent Advances in Remote sensing development
