The annual meeting is a time of food and gathering for the IEEE members of the Chattanooga Section. A key note speaker from GE Grid Solutions will discuss grid modernization and key insights to career management. The section leadership will discuss with the membership accomplishments of the past year and lay out the path forward for 2020.

Annual Meeting Itinerary:

Key Insights to Career Management & Grid Modernization: Technological Advancements Beyond Smart Grid

There are 12 important aspects to keep in mind when living and managing your career to achieve your goals. These will be explained and explored with examples based on John's 46 years as an engineer, manager, and executive managing people's careers, and 49 years as an IEEE member.

Technological advancements for grid modernization will include discussions of key/societal trends, Smart Grid Concepts, holisitic solutions, integration of microgrids and distributed generation, and ADMS software applications. Other topics covered will include feeder automation business models, managing different types of data, big data, Smart Grid standards and interoperability, and Smart Grid deployments and lessons learned.

Biography:

John D. McDonald, P.E., is Smart Grid Business Development Leader for GE’s Grid Solutions business.  John has 46 years of experience in the electric utility industry. John joined GE on December 3, 2007 as General Manager, Marketing for GE Energy’s Transmission and Distribution business. In 2010 John accepted the new role of Director, Technical Strategy and Policy Development for GE Digital Energy. In January 2016 John assumed his present role with the integration of Alstom Grid and GE Digital Energy to form GE Grid Solutions.
