Method of Moments (MoM) is a widely used computational technique for solving a wide array of electromagnetic   problems   involving   RF   and   microwave circuits, antennas, scattering, electrical analysis of chip-package-board systems, EMI/EMC, bio-medical microwave imaging etc. This talk will use illustrative examples to briefly cover important concepts in Method of Moments and their use in solving real-world problems.

Specific topics may briefly include:

-      Need for Computational Electromagnetics

-      Introduction to Method of Moments, comparison against Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method

-      Basis function and testing function

-      3D electrostatic formulation, charge density computation, capacitance extraction

-      3D full-wave formulation, S-parameters extraction, current density computation, RCS evaluation

-      Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE), RWG Basis function

-      Dielectric handling using MoM – volume integral equation (SWG basis function) and surface integral equation (PMCHWT)

-      Magnetic Field Integral Equation (MFIE), Combined Field Integral Equation (CFIE)

-      Demonstrative examples and practical applications – package-board extraction, antenna analysis, EMI/EMC problems, microwave imaging and breast cancer detection, etc.

-      Advanced topics – fast electromagnetic solvers, large scale computation using Fast Multipole Method, low-frequency breakdown in electromagnetics

-      Translating technology out of academia – commercial solver development, an industry perspective

Dr. Arkaprovo Das

Biography:

Dr. Arkaprovo Das received his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2017 and M.E from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2011. Currently, he is working as Co-founder at Simyog Technology Private Limited. His primary research focus and interest is in computational electromagnetics, fast solvers for electromagnetic applications, developing EM simulation tools, formulations and algorithms etc. At Simyog, he is focused on developing design and sign-off tools for automotive electronics, with emphasis on EMI/EMC. Specifically, he is the primary architect of electromagnetic solver technology embedded inside commercial Simyog products and is playing a major role in developing those. In addition, he has co-authored several publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and is currently serving as a reviewer of IEEE T-CPMT and ACES journals. Since 2017, he is serving as the incumbent secretary of IEEE Electronic Packaging Society, Bangalore Chapter.
