The Circuits & Devices Chapter invites you to a talk by Ron Demko of AVX Corp. on the Growth and Challenges in Passive Component Technology for IoT, EV, and Energy Harvesting.

Food and refreshments will be provided.

Abstract:

The past year has been historic in the world of passive components: Component shortages were driven by the rapid growth in the emerging sectors of IoT, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, and high-reliability applications, such as in the fields of space and medicine.

This talk will serve as a review of trends within the IoT, industrial, automotive, and high reliability sectors, and trends in energy conversion (primarily energy harvesting). Growth rates in these areas, as well as high level design trends, will be shown. Additionally, we will demonstrate the impact of these trends relative to their effect on the demand for capacitors. Finally, an example of how to design around multilayer ceramic capacitors will be discussed, should delivery times/shortages exist in the future.

Speaker Bio:

Ron Demcko, AVX Fellow and Manager of TSG Team at AVX Head Quarters in Fountain Inn S.C.

Ron graduated with a BSEE from the Clarkson College of Technology in 1982.

Before joining AVX Corp., Ron started as a Product Engineer and later became Product Engineering Manager at Corning Glass Works, Electronics Division. In this role, he supported production, sales, and development of pulse resistant capacitors, high temperature capacitors, and radiation resistant capacitors. He developed high frequency test methods and co-developed high temperature test systems and products.

From 1987 to 1994, Ron joined AVX as an Application Engineer, where his work included product development of integrated passive components, EMI filters, and transient voltage suppression devices. Between 1994 and 1999 Ron was EMC Lab Manager at AVX Raleigh N.C. The lab concentrated on sub-assembly testing and passive component fixes for harsh electrical environments.

Currently, as Fellow and Manager of TSG Team at AVX, Ron’s role spans projects ranging from interface with all major IC foundries to product support, new product identification, and applied development.

Please Note: The event will be held on the University of Toronto's Mississauga Campus. Parking can be found here.
