The 2020 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT) was held in Bucharest, Romania on February 25 to 28 at Hotel InterContinental. The meeting gathered around 125 representatives from 42 countries.

The International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT) is an annual forum for the exchange of information on the progress of research and development in innovative antenna technology. It especially focuses on small antennas and applications of advanced and artificial materials to the antenna design. At iWAT, all the oral presentations are delivered by invited prominent researchers and professors. iWAT has a particular focus on posters by which authors have the opportunity to interact with leading researchers in their fields. iWAT is a series of annual international antenna workshops which has been held in Singapore (2005), White Plaines, USA (2006), Cambridge, UK (2007), Chiba, Japan (2008), Santa Monica, USA (2009), Lisbon, Portugal (2010), Hong Kong, China (2011), Tucson, USA (2012), Karlsruhe, Germany (2013), Sydney, Australia (2014), South Korea (2015), Orlando, USA (2016), Athens, Greece (2017), Nanjing, China (2018), Miami, USA (2019).

The 2020 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT) was held in Bucharest, Romania on February 25 to 28 at Hotel InterContinental. The meeting gathered around 125 representatives from 42 countries.

It was sponsored by Rohde & Schwarz Romania and Banca Comerciala Romana S.A., and technically supported by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, Region 8, and the IEEE Romania Section – AP-S / CRFID Joint Chapter. The workshop was co-organized by Constanta Maritime University, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, University Politehnica of Timisoara, and “Ferdinand 1st” Military Technical Academy. The members of the organizing committee were: General Chair - Razvan D. Tamas (Constanta Maritime University, Romania), General Vice Chair - Alina Mihaela Badescu (University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania), International Advisory Commitee Chairs - Zhi Ning Chen (National University of Singapore, Singapore) and Raj Mittra (University of Central Florida, USA), Technical Program Commitee Chairs - Tudor P. Palade (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and Florin Alexa (Politehnica University Timisoara, Romania), Local Arrangement Chair - Ioan Nicolaescu (Military Technical Academy, Romania), Exhibition Chair - Remus Cacoveanu (University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania), Sponsorship Chair - Teodor Petrita (Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania) Finance Chair - Mariana Rotariu (Constanta Maritime University, Romania), Publication Chair - Stefania Bucuci (Constanta Maritime University, Romania), Contact Chair - Liliana Anchidin (Constanta Maritime University, Romania), Webmaster - Antonio Sorin Tasu (Maritime University of Constanta, Romania).
The presentations were assigned as follows: 40 contributions in 9 invited oral sessions, and 76 in 3 technical interactive sessions, in which 45 student papers.

Three out of the 11 finalist presentations of the Student Paper Contest were awarded. The winners of the best student poster presentation were: ”A Low Profile, UWB Circular Patch Antenna with Monopole-Like Radiation Characteristics” co-authored by Bahare Mohamadzade - Macquarie University, Australia; Roy Simorangkir - IETR, University of Rennes 1, France; Raheel Maqsood Hashmi - Macquarie University & IEEE, Australia; Karu Esselle - University of Technology Sydney, Australia, and ”Calibration for a Hybrid MIMO Near-field Imaging System to Mitigate Antennas Effects” co-authored by Manh Ha Hoang -Technological University Dublin, Ireland; Zeeshan Ahmed, Matthias John, Patrick McEvoy, Max Ammann - Technological University Dublin, Ireland. The “Prof. Raj Mittra” special prize was awarded to the presentation ”Analysis of the Effects of Conductivity on Small Antenna Characteristics”, by Rana Berro - Grenoble Alpes University & CEA LETI, France; Serge Bories - CEA, France; Christophe Delaveaud - CEA-LETI, France. A Special prize for the highest number of contributions to iWAT 2020 was awarded to Professor Tudor Palade and his research team at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
