INDUSTRIAL VISIT
The IEEE PES SBC of Vimal Jyothi Engineering College conducted an Industrial visit for the active IEEE PES members on 26th October 2019 to Travancore Cochin Chemicals Limited, Kochi.
EVENT
DAY 1
The journey to Kochi started on 25th Oct 2019 at 08:00 pm from Vimal Jyothi Engineering College. There were 54 student members and 4 faculty members for the IV.
DAY 2
The group reached Kochi at 06:00 am in the morning on 26th October 2019 and after fresh-up and breakfast at SAS Residency the group left for Industrial Visit at Travancore Cochin Chemicals Limited, Kochi.
TCC is a public sector undertaking owned by the government of Kerala, engaged in the manufacture and marketing of caustic soda, Chlorine and allied chemicals. It is situated in Udyogamandal industrial district of Kochi, India. TCC is the only caustic soda producing plant in Kerala. it has an electrolysis capacity of 180 tones. The base material used for manufacturing process is brine solution. The biproduct produced is Cl gas which is stored as liquid chlorine in cylinders. The electrical substation inside the plant is a 110/11 KV Substation which consists of two 110/11 KV transformers and two 11KV/415V distribution transformers. There are also 3 capacitor banks in the substation for power factor improvement. The whole of the plant is centrally controlled with SCADA system and any malfunctioning can be easily rectified. The industrial visit at TCC concluded by 01:00 pm.
After lunch at Hotel Ifthar the group proceeded to Fort Cochin from Marine drive by boat. A charming seaside area, Fort Kochi is known for its Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonial architecture, and elaborate bamboo fishing nets at Fort Kochi Beach .From there by 04:45 pm the group proceeded to Vypeen and over there the group visited Vallarpadam Church. The National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom, Vallarpadam-Ernakulam, is a large center of pilgrimage, and the major Christian pilgrim center of India.
By 06:00 pm the group left the Church and proceeded to Lulu Mall for shopping.At 09:00 pm we had our dinner at Hotel Ifthar and at 11:00 pm the group began their return journey.
DAY 3
The group reached back at VJEC on 27th October 2019 at 07:00am.
CONCLUSION
The industrial visit was very informative and entertaining and the students reached back safely.
