Canada's Activities in the CAV Ecosystem

Barrie’s presentation will comprise three modules. First, Canadian activities in CAV innovation, including research, development and testing of both AV and CV technologies. Second, the status of Canada's activities to prepare for the arrival of CAVs on our roads, including work in the regulatory arena in all three levels of government. Third, the ongoing activities in Canada to investigate the socio-economic impact on our personal lives, businesses and governments over the next 20 years.

Biography:

Barrie Kirk, P.Eng. is the Executive Director of CAVCOE (formerly the Canadian Automated Vehicles Centre of Excellence). He is a well-known consultant, speaker and broadcaster on connected and automated vehicles and has advised many public and private sector organizations on planning for the CAV era. His other roles include the Canadian Federal Government's Car of the Future Advisory Group, the Canadian Standard's Association's Connected and Automated Vehicle Advisory Council, and the organizing committee for the CAV Canada 2020 conference. He has worked in the technology industries in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.. Barrie received a B.Sc. (Honours) in Electrical Engineering from Coventry University, U.K. and is a Professional Engineer.
