The talk gave an introduction of Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) systems and their use case in providing vision to autonomous vehicles. In particular, the talk presented the recent advance in this technology provided by the Australian-based company Baraja. Baraja has developed a unique and elegant solution, Spectrum-Scan™ to solving the problem of LiDAR beam steering through the use of dispersion optics. The founders of Baraja Federico Collarte (CEO) and Cibby Pulikkaseril (CTO) drew on their unique insights into telecommunications techniques and the automotive industry's needs, creating an elegant solution to the problems facing the first-generation LiDAR systems that are used in prototype self-driving vehicles.
