Emerging UAV Technology for Industrial Applications, Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract: Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology is one of the disruptive technologies with a high potential to transform the way we conduct our daily operations in the Oil & Gas industry. This technology is gaining high momentum in various sectors to reduce operating cost, enhance safety, reduce risks and enable agile and fast response to incidents. In this presentation, Soliman will give an overview of UAV technology for industrial applications, capabilities and limitations, applications and real uses cases, opportunities and challenges to deploy this technology.

Soliman Al-Walaie of Saudi Aramco
Biography:
Soliman A. Al-Walaie is a Senior Engineering Consultant in the Inspection Department of Saudi ARAMCO with more than 22 years of experience in Industrial Networks, UAV and Robotics Engineering. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from KSU, Saudi Arabia in 1996, and a M.S. in Telecommunications from University of Maryland – College Park, US in 2003. His focus areas cover wireless technology, optical communications, SCADA & Plants Networks, and recently UAV & Robotics technologies for industrial applications. Soliman is the technical leader of the UAV & Robotics domain in Saudi Aramco which is part of the Digital Transformation Program. Before joining Saudi Aramco, he worked for Lucent Technologies (AT&T) as a lead communication engineer in the TEP-6 project. He published several technical papers in national and international conferences and magazines. In addition, he filed number of patents in his area of specialty and won King’s prize for inventors in 2018
