IEEE PES & PELS Chapter Meeting (virtual): Automated Cascading Analysis to Comply with NERC Reliability Standards
Security and safety of a power system network are fundamental aspects of electric utility operation. As the security issues related to the power industry become more critical, the challenge of maintaining the secure operation of bulk power systems is growing. The utilities and regional organizations should be able to assess quickly an outcome of a larger impact on the transmission network. Major blackouts are frequently caused by cascading outages. Since cascading outages may have such a wide-spread effect, NERC, under its transmission planning standards requires analyses of cascading events. This presentation addresses industry best practices in the assessment of cascading outages as a part of NERC compliance studies.
