Distribution Substation & Feeder STATCOM Application 101
PES / IAS / LM Joint Meeting
NOTICE - This session will be paid for by the North Jersey Section PES as a courtesy to our members and prospective members during these challenging times of COVID-19. There will be no charge for participation and Continuing Education Unit credits.
This session is being offered as a GoToMeeting (details below).
Presentation: STATCOMS
The following topics will be covered for the Substation STATCOM portion
- Fundamentals of STATCOM system design and operations
- Providing Dynamic Vars for large utility scale renewables
- Providing flicker mitigation at large industrial sites
- Providing the ability to ride through voltage sags (down to 20% nominal) so industrial and large commercial sites don’t shut down or lose their products for momentary events.
- Providing voltage stability support on sub-transmission and transmission grids.
The Following topics will be covered for the Feeder STATCOM portion
- Increasing DG Feeder hosting capacity
- Decreasing the number of operations of mechanical equipment and O&M budgets
- Providing additional benefit to Volt/VAR Optimization and CVR programs
- Providing End-of-line voltage support without making the system weaker and increasing fault current levels at the end of the Feeder
- Providing voltage phase balancing on individual feeders
The Webinar will also briefly discuss how to model the STATCOM in load flow software including Cyme, Synergi and Milsoft.
