On 23rd June 2020, Dr G. Sireesha(Asst. Prof, Dept of Math) delivered a lecture on the topic “Eigen Values and Eigen Vectors” and T. Kusuma(Asst. Prof, H & S) delivered a lecture on the topic “Singular Value Decomposition”.

  • Dr G. Sireesha started the lecture by introducing the students to the concept of Eigen Values and Eigen Vectors and how to calculate them.
  • She explained how Google’s page rank algorithm uses Eigen Vectors to assign ranks to webpages.
  • She then explained the importance of these topics in various engineering fields and showed us some examples like the Tacoma Bridge Collapse or Designing a Car Stereo System.
  • She also explained their uses in how Netflix uses Singular Value Decomposition and then handed over the lecture of Ms T. Kusuma.
  • Ms T. Kusuma then continued to expand on the topic of Singular Value Decomposition.
  • She explained how to calculate it and various applications of SVD.
  • She showed us how it’s used in Image Processing and Image Compression.
