IEEE AP-MTTS SBC IIT KGP presents online pan India workshop for B.Tech/M.Tech/Diploma students
Project-I
Internships, Industrial trainings, workshops and short-term courses are considered as indispensable part of any undergraduate engineering studies. But the recent times have forced many students to be deprived from such programmes especially internships both research and industrial. IEEE being one of the largest professional body in engineering can be a rescue for such enthusiastic young minds. This internship program is solely intended to fulfil the vision and mission of IEEE as connectivity matters to advance the technology for humanity.
Almost every year IEEE-AP-MTT-SBC, IIT Kharagpur section organizes summer workshop, mainly designed by Research scholars. Our previous workshops were a huge success and helped many students to gain technical insights for many difficult topics of electromagnetics along with serving as a boot camp for IEEE membership. Since this year such workshop cannot be organized due to COVID-19, we have proposed that we can mentor engineering students by assigning small online project to interested candidates for a fix time interval (at the most one month). We believe that it would not only help the undergraduates but also help the research scholar for their future academic career. The rules related to duration, selection process and topics are fixed by the Ex-Com/SAC members and given below. The application process will start from 16th July 2020 and will end on 25th July. The selected candidates will be notified by 26th July. The program will start from 27th July and will end on 30th August. The program would be named as “Project-I”
(Rules)
- The internship will be for duration of one month and can be extended upon special request for a maximum of 15 days only. No further extension will be permissible.
- Engineering students from AICTE / UGC approved college enrolled in diploma / B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech in the discipline of ECE / EIE / EE are eligible to apply.
- Pre-requisite knowledge on basic electromagnetic theory, microwave engineering, MATLAB / Python coding will be preferred.
- No group will be formed for internship and it would be purely individual.
- The selection will be based on their CV. Selected candidates will be notified through E-mail.
- Mentors will assign the internship project after discussion and brainstorming with the student.
- Mentors will arrange at least one meeting weekly with the students on Google meet / WebEx / Microsoft meet / Skype etc to discuss about the progress of the work. The time investment on the intern purely depends on the convenience of the mentor.
- Mentoring for this event is a voluntary activity and no compensation will be provided to the mentors.
- The students have to submit a report after successful completion of internship and a presentation with voice over for final presentation. Submission of codes for any software-based project and a demo video for any hardware-based project is must.
- The internship will focus mainly on applications of microwave, antennas, RF but not necessarily limited to this.
- All interns must ensure that they have good internet facility.
- Use of any unlicensed or pirated software is strictly prohibited for the internship. The intern should be able to execute the project with free and open source software/simulator options only or licenced software of their respective institutes.
- All the interns will receive a participation certificate upon successful completion of his/her tenure.
- The submitted reports will be evaluated based on the creativity, implementation and etc. Three of the best student reports will get a small token of appreciation of INR 2000/-each.
- Two of the best mentors will be rewarded with new/renewed IEEE membership. The best mentor will be decided on the performance of the intern (60% weightage) and the feedback given by the intern (40% weightage).
Intended Outcome from the Internship program:
- Students will gain practical exposure in the domain of RF microwave
- This internship will be good supplement to the classes they attend in their respective institutes.
- Their will learn about the latest and cutting-edge areas in RF Microwave which will very helpful for their future career.
