Once a year the Pikes Peak Section meets at an Annual Business Meeting to elect Section officers, present the "state" of the Section, solicit member comments and to simply share a meal and get to know one another. This year's annual meeting will be help February 19 at Old Chicago.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING SPECIFICS:

DATE, TIME and LOCATION: Wednesday, February 19, starting at 6:00 PM and ending at approximately 7:30 PM at Old Chicago located at 4110 N. Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs. This location is at the northwest corner of the intersection of N. Academy Blvd. and Austin Bluffs Parkway.

The meeting will be held in a private dining area. Member spouses and significant others are invited and encouraged to attend. There is no admission charge. Old Chicago is well known for its casual Italian entrees and over 110 beer selections.

OFFICER ELECTIONS: The IEEE requires the Sections of hold annual elections for the section positions of: 1) Chair, 2) Vice-Chair, 3) Treasurer, and 4) Secretary. The following four individuals have been nominated by the Section Executive Committee:

1. Chair: Mr. Dave Wells (2013 Chair)
2. Vice-Chair: Mr. Russ Bogardus (2013 Vice Chair)
3. Secretary: Major Constance Hendrix (USAF)
4. Treasurer: Dr. Debora Elam (2013 Secretary)

MEMBERSHIP NOMINATION OF, AND VOTING FOR, CANDIDATES

1. NOMINATION: Members can nominate other candidates(s)for the above position(s) by either: a) Nominating at the Annual Meeting or b) Emailing nominations to David Cotton (david.cotton@ieee.org). If nominating by email you must email Mr. Cotton with your candidate selection(s) by February 17th at 6:00 PM. Mr. Cotton will collect all email nominations and present them at the Meeting. In either case for nominees to be considered the candidate(s) must be a current member of the Section and must have accepted the nomination. Although not required, the nominee is strongly encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting.

2. ELECTION OF CANDIDATES.
Election of candidates will take place at the Annual Business Meeting, February 19th by secret paper ballot.

Technical Society Chairs will also be available to answer questions on their chapter interests. And this is a good opportunity to tell us what we’re doing good (and not so good) as a Section.

BIOS:

1. Maj Constance Hendrix is currently the Deputy Director for the Systems Engineering Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Aeronautics at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). In this position she is responsible for the operations of the Academy’s second largest engineering major which includes over 400 cadets, the management of 6 courses, and the cooperation of seven participating departments. She also has taught differential equations with circuit applications, principles of Air Force electronics, digital signal processing and intro to systems engineering to cadets majoring in electrical, computer, or systems engineering. Maj Hendrix is transitioning to a new assignment at Peterson AFB starting February 2 2014. Maj Hendrix academic accomplishments include a B.S.E.E (University of Florida), an M.S.E.E. in Electrical Engineering (Air Force Institute of Technology), and a Master’s in Business Administration (University of West Florida). She is a licensed P.E. in the state of Colorado. Maj Hendrix has also published two papers on the use of a model-based Linear Quadratic Gaussian controller to mix both inertial and camera measurement inputs to provide navigation solution updates that allow a micro-sized helicopter to maintain hover.

2. Dr. Debora Elam is the Team Leader for the Software Engineering Process at New York Air Brake, a Knorr-Bremse company. She is a senior software engineer with experience in PC-based and embedded software development. She is also an adjunct professor for Colorado Technical University Online in the Information Technology and Computer Science undergraduate and graduate programs, and a consultant for MediaTechnics Corporation, which specialized in innovative technology for publishing and education. She holds graduate degrees in international relations from Troy State University and in computer science from Colorado Technical University; she completed her doctorate in 2011 with a dissertation on the impact of process management on innovation in software development. She has been an IEEE member for many years and actively supported various local Pikes Peak Section events.

3. Russ Bogardus is currently retired but volunteers as an electrical engineer with Engineering Ministries International here in Colorado Springs. His last volunteer effort was the preliminary electrical design of a missionary complex in Ecuador which included a medical clinic, homes for abused children and storefronts for micro industries. Prior to that he spent forty years as a Chief Engineer/System Engineer with both IBM and Lockheed Martin conceptualizing, designing, developing, integrating, testing and installing large scale, complex hardware and software weapon systems for the DoD. His experience runs the gamut from satellite command and control, special operations helicopters and airplanes, battle management systems, and integrated ship/helicopter anti-submarine warfare systems. He has a B.S.E.E (Union College) and an M.S.E.E. (University of Rochester). He is a licensed P.E. in the state of Colorado (2011). He has also co-authored seven papers in the fields of biomedical engineering and functional and operational testing of large scale weapon systems.

4. Dave Wells has been an IEEE member since 1953 when he was a student at Oklahoma State University. He has a BSEE degree from OSU and an MSEE degree from the University of Denver. In 1955 he went on active duty as a 2nd lieutenant with the Army Signal Corps. In 1957 he was hired by the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, to write course material and teach the TACAN system of air navigation to maintenance technicians. In 1960 he moved to Denver, joining the staff of the Denver Research Institute as a technical writer and engineer for an Air force project. In 1968 he took a job with a start- up company, Computer Image Corporation, to participate in the development of computer animation equipment. In 1974 he became a staff member of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, working on an 8-beam (CO2) laser fusion research project which took five years to complete. He then transferred to another five year project, the Proton Storage Ring which was being added to a medium energy accelerator facility at the laboratory. He retired from the laboratory in 1990 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1998. Shortly there after he became associated with the Pikes Peak Section of the IEEE.
