IEEE seminar by Prof. Nihar Mohapatra on "CMOS Technology Challenges and Opportunities beyond 22nm Node"
Advanced CMOS technologies are currently being used for high
performance and low power switching circuits and microprocessors. The
aggressive technology scaling in last two decades (to sustain Moore’s law)
have forced the researchers to use novel technology elements like
aggressive junction scaling, asymmetric devices, stress layers, embedded
strain techniques, OPCs, immersion lithography, high-k metal gate stacks
and 3-D devices. Furthermore, the technology features needs to be
developed keeping in mind the parameter variability (a major issue in
advanced technologies) and manufacturability (yield and cost). This talk
will cover all the above mentioned aspects.

Prof. Nihar Mohapatra
Biography:
Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra received the Ph.D. degree (EE) in 2004 from
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Bombay, India. During his research,
from 2003 to 2006 at IHP Microelectronics-Frankfurt, Germany, he worked on
the development of RF-LDMOS devices for 130nm and 250nm technologies. From
2006 to 2008 he worked for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and served several
PD-SOI-CMOS device integrations from 90nm down to 45nm technologies for
high performance microprocessors. From 2009 to 2011 he worked for
Globalfoundries and was responsible for integrating several memory devices
(SRAM, eDRAM and NVM) in 28nm bulk CMOS technologies. He joined Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, India as an Assistant Professor
in July-2011. His current research interests are focused on novel
semiconductor device design, compact modelling of advanced MOS devices,
reliability of semiconductor devices, computational lithography and analog
IC design. He has active collaboration with several semiconductor
industries and research institutions (India or abroad). Dr. Mohapatra is
the author and co-author of numerous technical papers and patents in the
semiconductor field.
