Due to COVID-19 precautions, this section meeting will be conducted via Zoom.

If you have been paying attention lately (as you probably have been), you might have noticed that there are more and more Teslas and other electric vehicles (EVs) on the road up here. Some of you might even be owners of EVs. This said, within the next several years, EVs are expected to compete favorably against conventional vehicles, but there are some associated challenges. Some obvious challenges have to do with charging infrastructure, as the some of the fast chargers are able to charge vehicles at a rate of several hundred kilowatts per hour and require liquid-cooled cables to make this happen. As you can imagine, any intermittent load like that is going to present some utility planning challenges. Other challenges have to do with our climate and the effects that this has on battery life and so forth.

At any rate, our presenters Dimitri Shein helped start the Alaska Electric Vehicle Association (AKEVA), a 501c3 dedicated to furthering electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Alaska. He will be presenting about the challenges and benefits of electric vehicles in Alaska.
